[Transphobia trigger warnings, for the link. Its very good news for trans folk, but there’s a lot of discussion of bullshit Republican excuses for why trans people shouldn’t have civil rights]
The bill, which just cleared the Senate and now heads to Gov. Malloy’s desk (he’s signing it!), bars discrimination against trans people in their search for housing, in the workplace, and when trying to obtain credit.
This is so fucking exciting.
I’m so happy. Our state sucks marginally less! We’re awesome. We’re AWESOME! Now just make this an affordable place to live, and make it less racist. And we’ll be cool, Connecticut!!
Can I just say that its amazing that we no longer have a Republican governor? Because I’m almost positive Governor Rell would have vetoed this. I remember that summer I spent knocking on doors, campaigning for a universal health care bill (this was before Obama), which, through our hard work, actually passed the house and senate, only to be vetoed by that asshole.
Thank god we have Governor Dannel Malloy. He’s got his flaws, but shit, at least he’s on the right side of the issues, most of the time.
